Dana & Mike & Ralphie! {Denver Engagement Photography}

Close your eyes, just for a minute, and envision the perfect Colorado fall engagement shoot...open them up....and here we go!

Great location, beautiful day, gorgeous couple and the cutest dog.

Introducing Dana, Mike, and their pretty pup, Ralphie. There is nothing we'd rather do than spend a warm fall day in a park in Boulder with a fun, laid-back couple and their adorable dog. I love the whole feel of this shoot. So Colorado :)

Mike & Dana, thank you for letting us document this season of love in your lives before you become husband & wife! We cannot wait for your wedding next year!

They gave each other a smile with a future in it.

Megan & Brian engaged! {Denver Engagement}

We met up with Megan & Brian at Rocky Mountain National Park a few weeks before their wedding. Yes, they are now in marital bliss....those photos to come!:) This shoot was fun for a couple reasons; we saw our first bear (photo below), it was our first time to shoot in Rocky Mountain National Park and Megan & Brian packed a cute little picnic with fun props. Megan & Brian spend a lot of time in the park and led us to a secluded little clearing they discovered. We promised to secrecy and can't share the exact location, sorry!:)

He's small but he's there. I had my wide angle lens on, please forgive me.

Reminds me of Twilight or the Real Housewives of Atlanta...right? I'm a pop culture junkie. I can't help it. Try not to judge.

Who else is so excited for Thanksgiving? I'll be in the Cleveland area and Kimothy will be in DC for the next week. Let us know if you'd like to book a session!

And the Winner is...

CONGRATULATIONS to Laura Hohman for a brilliant, themed photo shoot idea!

Laura's awesome idea:

Great Gatsby theme Croquet game with some good friends in the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Imagine- Floppy hats, suspenders, pin stripes, martinis in a very peculiar setting.

How did you know that one of our all time favorite books is The Great Gatsby?! AND we've been wanting to do a photo shoot at the Great Sand Dunes since we moved here!

So yes, the location is a bit far. But it is too good to pass up. It would definitely fit into the "exception" category...and this is not a shoot that is ideal for the winter months...BUT... we LOVE your creativity and we can share your vision with this one. The props and attire will be so elegant, prim, ethereal, dapper yet out of place and in stark contrast with the wild, rolling sand terrain. Oy vey. We cannot wait for this one. But we must. And we will. Because the photos will soooo be worth it, we promise :)

We'll post come the springtime/summertime upon the conclusion of this fabulous shoot.

Lastly, and importantly, we are so thankful to all of you who pitched your ideas to us and joined in on the fun. We heard so many great ideas from the comments and via email, that honestly, we want to do them all. And we want to encourage you to schedule these mostly winter-themed shoots with us because they are AWESOME!

That being said, if you left us a comment (or sent an email) about an idea for the contest shoot, we're giving you a ridiculously cool deal on it should you book it with us this winter. I mean, it's goooood. Please email us for details. Some of the shoots would take place at mountain resorts, so we've got to work out the deets with you personally.

We look forward to capturing all of this awesomeness and creating these memories for you guys. Thanks again for the ideas, ya'll. We're just so happy people are into the whole photography thing as much as we are!

It's only right to leave you with a poetic, visionary line from the masterpiece of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel:
"Daisy and Jordan lay upon an enormous couch, like silver idols weighing down their own white dresses against the singing breeze of the fans..."

(That last line seems to conjure up the perfect image of a scene of ladies lounging in a parlor from that era...)

or how bout this one...

"A phrase began to beat in my ears with a sort of heady excitement: 'There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired."

Okay, I'm going to go re-read (<--is that a real word?) the Great Gatsby now...sigh. :)

Oh Baby! {newborn photography}

Newborns are so fun to photograph. They will never be this small again. I can't get enough of their little feet, hands, chubby cheeks and feather hair. Meet Landon, the adorable first born of Ashley & Chris. We met Chris aka Gip waaay back in middle school. Then he met a wonderful woman. And now he's married. With a child. That is his mini-me. Where did the years go??

Landon was amazingly alert for most of the shoot and when he looks at you he actually LOOKS at you. Most newborns have that unfocused, dreamy look in their eyes but not Landon. He was so interested in the camera it made photographing him easy.

O-H!!! (I-O)

He looks like a baby doll I had when I was young. So cute. I want to squeeze him (gently). :)

Congratulations Ashley & Gip! We're so happy for you two. Thank you for letting us in on this special event in your life. We hope we get to photograph Landon for many years to come.

And a quote about newborns:

It was the tiniest thing I ever decided to put my whole life into.

The Pretzler Family {Denver Family Photography}

Last month I had the pleasure of photographing an adorable family in one of my favorite towns in Colorado thus far, Evergreen, CO. Evergreen is a small, spread out, quiet mountain town where families build their homes along the stretches of mountainside. It is so picturesque! There's a lake at the center of the town towards all the shops/restaurants where they have different seasonal community events including ice skating during the holidays. I'm hoping we can photograph people skating along that lake with the mountain backdrop very soon! (hint hint: photo shoot contest idea??? :))

I met this particular family from Evergreen, The Pretzlers, while photographing there house so they could eventually put it on the market for sale. The house is a gorgeous Tuscany style home that sits atop a 35 acre ranch, snowcapped views, ponds, streams, and rolling hills. (I'm still saving my pennies so maybe one day I could make them an offer lol). Anyhoo, their home is the perfect location for a Colorado outdoor shoot and they were so gracious to invite me back to their place for a family shoot while there were still some golden Aspen leaves showing!

Hope these photos entice you to visit beautiful Evergreen. And book a family shoot! I would have loved to do something fun like this with my family growing up! I love how you can understand the big sister-little brother relationship through some of these. Ahhh I always remember being so annoyed by my little brothers when we were young, but looking back, life would definitely not have been as FUN without them!

Introducing The Pretzler Family...

Other things may change us, but we start and end with the family.  ~Anthony Brandt
